Our example is well preserved and has a complete legend. We regret the hairlines and the weakness of the strike in certain areas, notably the faces of the characters and part of the polylobe.\n\nMost of the mints that struck the Saluts d'Or were under the control of the Duke of Burgundy, Philippe the Good. Following the treaty signed between the Duchy and France in 1435, they no longer minted coins for the English sovereign. The last two decades of the Hundred Years' War also saw the advance of the French, who recaptured Paris in 1436. In that year, the city ceased to mint coins on behalf of Henry VI.\n\nHenry VI of Lancaster, who became King of France and England at just one year of age in 1422, was the grandson of French King Charles VI, from whom he inherited his episodes of mania. His reign in France was rivaled by that of Charles VII, and ended in 1453 with England's final defeat in the Hundred Years' War.
