M (punic) above.

A very rare coin of exceptional quality, one of the finest examples seen in auctions so far, as the flan is well centred and the strike is excellent. Struck during the Libyan revolt, also known as the "Mercenary War", which followed the First Punic War, after an economic crisis hit Carthage due to the fine owed to the city to Rome. Revolt led by mercenaries demanding their payment, it was crushed in 238 by Hamilcar Barca, father of Hannibal, the famous Carthaginian commander. These coins are usually poorly struck, but this example is particularly detailed and required only one minting action, making it particularly attractive.
