Unfortunately, this aureus has been previously cleaned, with hairlines in the fields, which are light on the obverse but more significant on the reverse. Remains of plaster moulding can be seen in the last two letters of the caption on the observe. We also note that the coin was formerly mounted as jewellery, with numerous traces of mounting on the edge, notably at 2 and 3 o'clock, and at 6 o'clock on the obverse, and others are visible on the reverse at 9 and 11 o'clock. The wear on both sides is uniform, confirming this old mounting.
