From the Trausnitz collection.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp id=\"head\"\u003eBust of Hostilian, head bare, draped, right.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp id=\"reverse\"\u003eHostilian, in military attire, standing left, holding standard in right hand and transverse spear in left hand.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp id=\"comment\"\u003eMagnificent example of a very rare aureus of Hostilian, with very young traits, on a complete flan, very slight scratches in the fields, and slight circulation wear on the portrait's hair. \nHostilian was elevated to Caesar during the reign of his father Trajan Decius in May 251, with his brother Herennius Etruscus, then became co-emperor with Trebonian Galle in June 251 following the death of his father against the Goths at the battle of Abritus and his adoption by the new emperor. He died a few months later, in November of the same year, for unknown reasons, perhaps of the plague, or assassinated by Trebonianus. RIC IV Trajan Decius 181B.
