Thomas Paine was a radical who was hated by most Englishmen of the 1790’s. The portrayal of Paine’s end would be welcome by all loyal subjects. The inscription is derived from Paine’s book entitled The Rights of Man, which was published in 1791. The date January 21, 1793 on the right page of the book is the date that King Louis XVI of France was executed. The implication is that Paine’s ideas contributed to Louis’ death and would do the same for the English king.

THE WRONGS OF MAN JANY. 21:1793.

6.5 gr

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0637/1655/7029/products/400537A_c2091d72-5ad1-40be-a30d-d7bd37b18474.jpg?v=1692424118
https://www.numiscorner.com/products/400537-united-kingdom-great-britain-token-1793-au-55-58-copper-30-6-50
