RIC IV Gordian II 1. \r\nVery rare denarius of Gordian II, struck between mid-March and mid-April 238, ephemeral emperor who reigned less than a month, at the very beginning of the period known as \"Military Anarchy\". His father became emperor under the name of Gordian I, following a revolt against Maximin the Thracian for reasons of fiscal discontent, but aged over 80 years he joined his son Gordian II as co-emperor. Located in Africa proconsular he leaves to fight the legate of Numidia, remained faithful to Maximin, but dies in battle. These events will lead to the suicide of his father, desperate by the situation.
